Dr Mwinyi hails CCM-ACT Wazalendo Dialogue Committee for assuring political stability in Zanzibar

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said the formation of a Joint Dialogue Committee comprising members from CCM and ACT Wazalendo is an important step towards advancing the reconciliation process and strengthening peace, unity and political stability in Zanzibar.
President Mwinyi made the remarks today, September 14, 2026, at the State House in Zanzibar during the official launch of the committee. He urged its members to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, mutual respect and a commitment to safeguarding the broader interests of Zanzibar and its people.
He said the committee represents a continuation of efforts to implement agreements reached between CCM and ACT Wazalendo, while stressing the importance of political leaders and other stakeholders continuing to work together to build a peaceful, stable and prosperous Zanzibar.
President Mwinyi also commended leaders of CCM and ACT Wazalendo, other political leaders, elders and former Zanzibar presidents, Dr Amani Abeid Karume and Dr Ali Mohamed Shein, for their contributions to advancing the reconciliation process.

For his part, ACT Wazalendo Chairman Othman Masoud Othman said the party is ready to continue working together with other stakeholders to build Zanzibar.
He commended President Mwinyi for the various steps he has taken to oversee and advance the reconciliation process.
During the ceremony, President Mwinyi handed over the committee’s Terms of Reference to its two co-chairpersons, Othman Ali Sheikh of ACT Wazalendo and Abdi Mahmoud Abdi of CCM Zanzibar.
