Tanzania: CHAN, AFCON 2027 preps in top gear

DAR ES SALAAM: The government has allocated over 8bn/- for constructing and upgrading training grounds for the upcoming CHAN 2025 and AFCON 2027 tournaments.
Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya will jointly host AFCON 2027; the continent’s highly esteemed football competition.
This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Sports, Mr. Gerson Msigwa, in Dar es Salaam during the project’s signing ceremony.
Suma JKT has been commissioned to execute the project.

The PS stated that work is underway at various grounds, including Major General Isamuhyo, Gymkhana, and Law School grounds.
Others include Leaders, Farasi, Tirdo, and Gymkhana.
The upgrades will involve the installation of lights, seating for about 2,000 spectators, drainage, and natural grass to meet CAF standards.
He added that plans are in place to build five new training grounds across Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, and Arusha.
Beyond CHAN and AFCON, Tanzania is setting its sights on hosting the All African Games in 2031.
