Tanzania and Cuba celebrate the Fidel Castrol’s 100th birth anniversary in Dar

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and Cuba have commemorated the 100th anniversary of the birth of Cuban revolutionary leader Comandante Fidel Castro Ruz through a special exhibition celebrating his life, leadership and legacy.

The exhibition, featuring photographs and artwork, was held at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Memorial House in Magomeni, Dar es Salaam, bringing together government officials, diplomats and other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Director of Economic Diplomacy, Ambassador John Ulanga, said Tanzania continues to value the historic friendship between the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere and Fidel Castro, which was founded on the principles of independence, social justice, equality and solidarity.

He said Cuba also played an important role in Africa’s liberation struggles and the fight against colonialism and racial discrimination.

“Cuba made an important contribution to Africa’s liberation struggles and the fight against colonialism and racial discrimination,” Ambassador Ulanga said.

Cuban Ambassador to Tanzania Yordenis Despaigne Vera thanked the Tanzanian government and people for continuing to cherish the friendship and shared history between the two countries, particularly through honouring the memory of Fidel Castro.

Tanzania and Cuba continue to cooperate in several areas, including health, education and human resource development, while exploring opportunities to expand collaboration in agriculture, science and technology, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and renewable energy.

The commemorations were also attended by Mama Maria Nyerere, widow of the late Mwalimu Nyerere, members of the diplomatic corps, leaders and other stakeholders.
