Tanzania allocates 250m/- for construction of health centre to serve 18,823 residents in Kwimba

MWANZA: 18,823 residents of Mwakilyambiti ward in Kwimba district in Mwanza are expected to benefit from better health services after the Tanzanian government allocated 250m/- for the construction of the Mwakilyambiti Health Centre.
Speaking during the laying of the foundation stone today, August 18, 2026, in Mwanza, the Acting Kwimba District Director, Ms Janeth Lukumay said the centre was built after residents requested that the Mwakilyambiti dispensary be upgraded to a health centre.
She said Mwakilyambiti ward has five villages and 49 hamlets, with its residents previously relying on services from the Mwakilyambiti Dispensary and Mwamhanji Dispensary, as well as travelling to health centres in neighbouring wards of Hungumalwa and Nyamilama.
“The government provided 250m/- for the first phase of the construction of this center, with implementation being carried out through the Force Account system,” he said.
Ms Lukumay said the funds were received on July 14, 2025 and deposited in the account of the Mwakilyambiti Dispensary, before the project’s implementation officially began in October that year.
