Makamba launches construction of 220kv power line from Mbeya to Songwe

TUNDUMA: THE Deputy Minister for Energy Salome Makamba has arrived in Songwe District, Songwe Region, for the launch of a project to construct a 220-kilovolt (kV) electricity transmission line from Iganjo in Mbeya Region to Saza in Songwe Region, along with the construction of the Saza Substation.

The project was officially launched today. Ahead of the ceremony, Makamba visited the Songwe District Commissioner’s Office, where she held talks with district leaders led by Songwe District Commissioner Fadhil Nkurlu.

Makamba was accompanied at the ceremony by the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals, Subira Mgalu; the committee’s Vice Chairperson, Simon Songe; and the representative of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy responsible for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Engineer Edson Ngabo.

Also attending were members of the Board of the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) and senior officials from the utility.
