Say no to ‘kausha damu’ loan sharks

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIANS, the time has come to seize the golden opportunity to transform our economy through responsible borrowing. Taking a loan does not mean belittling someone, but boost businesses, create jobs and build a prosperous nation.

But remember again: honesty and prompt repayment are the secret ingredients. Borrow with integrity and pay back swiftly, so your neighbour can also benefit. Every repayment fuel growth and think of it as passing a baton in a relay, not dropping it and causing a fall.

Here, financial institutions, especially our banks, play a vital role in this journey. It is high time they lower interest rates, because if borrowing costs remain sky-high, definitely we are leaving a great percentage of Tanzanians in the cold/ darkness and will keep on languishing in abject poverty, year in year out.

High rates discourage entrepreneurs and small businesses, hampering progress. When banks relax their conditions by cutting unnecessary red tapes, they encourage more Tanzanians to access credit and invest confidently. Remember, borrowers are not criminals; they are partners in nationbuilding. Treat them with respect, trust and support, not suspicion. Nobody likes being treated like a thief just because they are asking for a helping hand.

Now, let us condemn the villains, those operating outside the regulation of the Bank of Tanzania, giving out ‘Kausha damu’ loans. These loan sharks are wolves in sheep’s clothing, fleecing our people with exorbitant interest rates that make even the strongest run for cover. Their practices are exploitation, profiting from the desperate and the uninformed. We must stand united against these rogue lenders and demand strict enforcement of banking laws. Enough of this ‘Kausha damu’ madness and our people deserve fairness, not financial slavery.

Let us foster a culture of responsible borrowing and lending. When borrowers honor their commitments and banks lower rates and relax conditions, we unlock Tanzania’s full potential. A prosperous future depends on mutual trust, honesty and cooperation, like a well-synced taarab band, every instrument must play its part.

To fellow Tanzanians: borrow wisely, repay promptly and be builders of our nation’s growth. To financial institutions: serve fairly, reduce interest rates and create an environment where all can succeed. Together, we can build a stronger, vibrant Tanzania-free from exploitation and full of hope.

Remember, the future belongs to those who act responsibly. Let us make that future a reality today.
