Samia hails Man United owner for supporting Selous Reserve

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIAN President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has expressed her gratitude to Manchester United owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, for his efforts in supporting and preserving the country’s major tourist attractions.
President Samia held talks with Sir Ratcliffe today, April 11, 2025, at the State House in Dar es Salaam.
During the meeting, President Samia thanked Sir Ratcliffe, who, through his organization Six Rivers, for his significant contribution to environmental and wildlife conservation efforts in the country, particularly in mitigating human-wildlife conflicts.

President Samia noted that the Tanzanian government appreciates the collaboration between Six Rivers and local institutions, including the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) and the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI), in protecting and promoting the country’s natural resources.

For his part, Sir Jim Ratcliffe expressed his commitment through his foundation to restore the glory of Selous Game Reserve, one of the oldest and largest wildlife reserves in Africa.

He stated that the main goal is to ensure the reserve regains its former status with a rich population of large wildlife species as it once had.
The meeting was part of Tanzania’s broader efforts to partner with international stakeholders in environmental conservation and in restoring the status of national parks, while also promoting the tourism sector for the benefit of the people and the nation at large.
