Dr Kijaji attends UN Conference to empower women engaged in tourism

VICTORIA FALLS: THE Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ashatu Kijaji, has arrived in Zimbabwe today, April 29, 2026,to participate in the Second Regional Conference of the UN Tourism, focusing on women’s empowerment in the tourism sector.
Upon her arrival, the minister was received by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Suzan Kaganda, ahead of the conference set to take place in Victoria Falls from today, April 29 to May 1.
The high-level meeting will bring together stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to discuss opportunities, challenges and strategies for increasing women’s participation in tourism and enhancing their contribution to economic growth.

According to information from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Kijaji is expected to take part in a ministerial panel, where senior leaders will deliberate on strengthening women’s leadership and ensuring equal opportunities within the sector.
The conference will also serve as a platform for sharing experiences, shaping inclusive policies and promoting sustainable tourism development, with key agenda items including women’s leadership, entrepreneurship and expanding economic opportunities in Africa’s tourism industry.
