Rotary golf tourney blends fun, fundraising

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Rotary Charity Golf Tournament 2025 came to a spectacular close this weekend, marking another successful year of sporting excellence in support of community service.
The tournament drew golfers from across the country for a day of spirited competition, fellowship and fundraising, all in the name of charity at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) course in the city over the weekend.
Hosted by the Rotary Club of Bahari, the annual event not only showcased golfing talent but also raised essential funds for various community development projects.
Taking the top spot this year was Team FlyDubai, who were crowned the overall winners of the tournament after delivering a commanding team performance.
The team featured a standout round from Theonas Mushi, who fired an impressive 42 Stableford points, supported by juniors Miko Mwakawago and Kiye Mwakawago Jr, who contributed 36 and 35 points respectively.
The trio’s combined 113 points sealed their victory. Their triumph earned them trophies, golf trolleys, and return tickets to Dubai for golf tour.
“We are proud to be part of this great initiative by Rotary,” said Peters during the prize-giving ceremony.
“The way this tournament is organised is commendable and we’re happy to support such a worthy cause.”
In the women’s individual category, Vicky Elias delivered a stellar round to claim Best Gross (Women) with a score of 78. On the men’s side, Murtaza Jariwalla secured Best Gross (Men) with a powerful performance of 76.
In Division A, Arjun Lavingia emerged victorious with 38 points. He was closely followed by Ali Shariff, who secured second place with 37 points, edging out Raj Lavingia, also on 37—on count back.
Theonas Mushi, beyond his team success, claimed individual glory by finishing first in Division B with 42 points. Mohammed Sammi followed in second with 41, while Aftab Dossaji took third place with 40 points.
In Division C, Anael Ndosa led the leaderboard with 42 points, followed by Mohammed Asgarali on 40 and Patrick Nanyaro with 39.

The Ladies Silver Category saw Ayne Magombe shine, taking first place with 40 points, while Maryanne Mugo came in second with 38 points.
In the individual skills challenges, Kishan Debhar took the honour for Longest Drive (Men), while Vicky Elias added to her accolades with the Longest Drive (Ladies) title.
Nearest to the Pin was won by Om Joshi in the men’s category, with Ayne Magombe claiming it for the ladies.
Rotary Club of Bahari president Sameer Santosh extended heartfelt gratitude to all participants and supporters who made the event a success.

“Your generosity helps us serve the community more effectively.”
This year’s ambitious goal is to champion impactful new initiatives, including the introduction of motorbike ambulance in partnership with TVS, aimed at serving over 5,000 mothers and newborns annually.
Other key projects president said include training primary school teachers to strengthen STEM education through Rotaractor-led programmes, expanding tree planting campaigns for climate action in schools and communities and installing an incinerator at Tuangoma Primary School to improve sanitation for over 3,000 students, including 35 with disabilities.
