PURA supports fight against HIV/AIDS, NCDs

DAR ES SALAAM: The Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) has pledged to continue supporting government efforts to combat Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) by facilitating regular training for its employees.
The commitment was announced by PURA Director General’s representative, Shigela Malosha, during the opening of a health and wellness training programme held in Dar es Salaam on Friday (May 29, 2026).
Speaking at the event, Shigela said the training forms part of measures being undertaken by PURA to implement the National Strategy for the Control of HIV, AIDS, and Non-Communicable Diseases in the workplace.
“Through these training sessions, we will enhance employees’ awareness and understanding of HIV, AIDS, and non-communicable diseases, thereby continuing to support government efforts in this area.
“Furthermore, by providing this training, PURA is directly contributing to the implementation of the second pillar of the National Development Vision 2050, which aims to build a healthy society,” Shigela added.
The training, delivered by health experts, covered a range of topics including mental health, proper nutrition, financial management, and education on social security schemes.
In addition to the training, PURA employees had an opportunity to undergo health screenings through services provided by specialists from the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI).

Employees also received professional counselling and guidance on their test results to enable them to take appropriate measures to improve their health.
Furthermore, hepatitis vaccination services were offered to employees who voluntarily chose to receive the vaccine as part of preventive measures against the disease.
