Dr Samia awards Ministry of Energy a special award for backing the Clean Cooking Energy campaign

ZANZIBAR: THE Ministry of Energy and its affiliated institutions have received a special award in recognition of their contribution to the successful convening of the Clean Cooking Energy Dialogue held in Kizimkazi, South Unguja Region, Zanzibar.

The award was presented by President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, and received on behalf of the Ministry of Energy and its institutions by Deputy Minister for Energy, Salome Makamba.

The dialogue brought together stakeholders from the government, private sector, development partners, financial institutions, technology experts, researchers and civil society organisations to discuss ways of accelerating access to and the adoption of clean cooking energy in Tanzania.

The forum also sought to promote access to cooking energy that is sustainable, safe and affordable for households and institutions.

The dialogue was organised by Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation (MIF), in collaboration with various stakeholders, as part of efforts to raise awareness and promote collective action towards increasing the use of clean cooking energy in the country.

During the dialogue, the government stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the public sector, private sector, development partners, financial institutions and other stakeholders to accelerate the transition to clean cooking energy.

The award was described as recognition of the Ministry of Energy and its institutions’ contribution and collaboration in making the dialogue a success. The forum placed emphasis on concrete measures to increase the adoption of clean cooking energy across the country.

The recognition further highlights the importance of multi-sectoral cooperation in achieving Tanzania’s national goals of expanding access to and promoting the use of clean cooking energy among households and institutions.
