Pundits hail CCM for orchestrating national development

DODOMA: POLITICAL pundits have commended the ruling CCM party for orchestrating Tanzania’s great strides over the last 48 years, particularly in upholding peace, stability and driving socio-economic development.

The analysts have acknowledged the long-standing impact of CCM’s governance in shaping the nation’s economic growth, infrastructure advancement and social cohesion.

From fostering a stable business environment to empowering women and supporting inclusive development, the achievements of CCM’s leadership have not only transformed Tanzania but also set a solid foundation for its continued prosperity, they claimed.

Economist and the Founding Director of the Centre for Chinese Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam, Professor Humphrey Moshi, speaking to the ‘Daily News’ said that CCM has succeeded in making Tanzania a peacefully and stable country in the region.

He insisted that peace and stability are essential for any nation’s progress, as development cannot occur without them.

Prof Moshi also acknowledged CCM’s significant achievements, including the construction of essential infrastructure such as roads, electricity and water services for citizens.

He called on the long-serving political party to accelerate its efforts in delivering developmental services, particularly in rural areas, with a focus on sustainable and inclusive development, especially by enhancing productive agriculture, including irrigation farming, as 60 per cent of Tanzanians are farmers.

Economist and investment banker, Dr Hildebrand Shayo said CCM has guided Tanzania’s economic growth over the past 48 years, noting the party’s influence in policy development, governance and business promotion.

He credited CCM’s probusiness policies, which have fostered local entrepreneurship, supported regulatory reforms and improved business licensing processes, leading to tangible infrastructure advancements, roads, electricity and water projects that continue to attract investors and strengthen Tanzania’s industries, particularly in the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector.

Dr Shayo also said that public-private partnerships (PPPs) have flourished under CCM’s leadership, creating an environment conducive to investments and job creation.

“Through these initiatives, the country has cultivated a stable business environment that attracts both local and international investors, contributing to economic growth,” he added.

During a symposium of CCM Women Wing (UWT) held on Tuesday in Dodoma, veteran politician and global women’s leader Gertrude Mongella expressed the progress made by women in Tanzania over the 48 years of CCM’s leadership, emphasising the importance of safeguarding the peace and stability the country has enjoyed.

She said that one of the key achievements of Tanzania’s long-standing peace is women’s safety, who often bear the brunt of conflict in countries where peace is absent.

Mongella highlighted the significance of supporting the current leadership under President Samia Suluhu Hassan while insisting the UWT members to remain vigilant, protect the peace and actively support the president’s efforts to maintain security and unity in the nation.

According to Mongella, anyone who seeks to destabilise Tanzania is a major threat and the effects of such actions would particularly harm women, who are often the most vulnerable in times of unrest.

The veteran politician went on to remind the attendees of the importance of Arusha Declaration, a crucial policy that enabled many women to pursue higher education.

Mongella also acknowledged the progress made by women under the CCM leadership, with several women having gained notable positions both in Tanzania and internationally.

She cited prominent figures such as Asha-Rose Migiro, Anna Tibaijuka, Scholastica Kimario, Anna Makinda and Tulia Ackson, all of whom have held influential leadership roles in various global organisations.

“These women are prime examples of how CCM has enabled women to break barriers and take leadership positions both locally and on the international stage,” she added.

Mongella highlighted the significant strides women have made in education in Tanzania, with increasing numbers of educated women adding that the current practice of gendersensitive appointments in Tanzania has resulted in a more inclusive and balanced approach to leadership selection.

The former Chairperson of UWT, Ms Sophia Simba also addressed the gathering and reinforced the message that CCM has played a pivotal role in advancing women in leadership positions.

She acknowledged the significant progress women have made within the party, especially in gaining leadership roles.

Simba called for continued prioritisation of women in leadership positions, particularly in parliamentary and local government elections.
