Prisons taste first league win
MBEYA: TANZANIA Prisons secured their first victory of the season in a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Fountain Gate at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya yesterday.
The victory lifted the team from 12th to 9th place in the Premier League standings. On the other hand, Fountain Gate, despite the loss, remains second on the table with 13 points.
The match saw visitors Fountain Gate take an early lead through Selemani Mwalimu, who made no mistake in steering the ball past Tanzania Prisons goalie Mussa Mbisa.
His powerful strike inside the box meandered into the back of the net to send his side ahead. It was his fifth goal of the campaign in seven matches hence making him the current top goal scorer.
The hosts came back into the game in the 25th minute when Nurdin Chona converted via a spot-kick awarded after Fountain Gate defender Laurian Makame fouled substitute Ismail Ally.
At 1-1, the game balanced with each team aiming to increase the tally and a free header by Kassim Suleiman in the 37th minute enabled Fountain Gate to finish the first half on gas pedal.
At restart, Prisons came refreshed no wonder Ezekia Mwashilindi made it 2-2 with a fantastic, curved set-piece just outside the box that went unopposed into the back of the net.
Few minutes later, it was the turn of Vedastus Mwihambi whose short-range header awarded Tanzania Prisons a third goal as the home side seized full control of the game with a 3-2 lead.
His goal sustained throughout the normal period of play and after the final whistle, the hosts walked away with an encouraging home triumph which is likely to give them confidence.
