President Samia to visit mudslide-devastated areas

MANYARA, Hanang: President Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to visit the mudslide-devastated areas of Katesh township in Hanang District, Manyara Region, on Thursday.

The trip is a response to the dire situation caused by a recent mudslide catastrophic incident that has left a trail of devastation in its wake.

President Samia, who initially attended the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, was forced to cut short her trip due to the disasters.

COP28, which commenced on November 30, is scheduled to end on December 12.

The Chief Government’s Spokesperson, Mr. Mobhare Matinyi, revealed that the President is expected to touch down in the country later on Thursday.

Upon her arrival, the Head of State will be briefed on the latest developments regarding the incident, including the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts, before visiting the affected area. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa is expected to provide a comprehensive report to President Samia.
