Police arrest 19 suspects for scamming youth with fake jobs

MOROGORO: POLICE in Morogoro region have arrested 19 individuals from four companies located in Morogoro for allegedly luring young people from various regions across the country through online platforms by claiming they can teach them how to become billionaires.

The Regional Police Commander, Alex Mkama said yesterday that the suspects were arrested between January and March this year, following operations aimed at combating persistent scammers who use online methods to deceive youths.

He said youth were required to pay fees ranging from 600,000/- to 1m/- and then they were put in camps under the pretence of continuing their studies, being assured that upon graduation, they will obtain jobs via the internet.

The RPC said that a total of 399 young people have been rescued from the clutches of the scammers and more than 19 suspects involved in the dirty business have already been arrested.

Mr Mkama added that many of the youths originate from the regions of Arusha, Manyara, Kilimanjaro, Tanga, Mwanza and Iringa.

He named the companies that are being investigated in connection to the matter as Alliance in Motion Global, QY Group of Company, Q-Net Group of Companies and Insant Millionaire.

“Currently, the leaders of these companies have been arrested for further investigation,” Mr Mkama said.

He urged parents to stop their children from going to Morogoro for trainings that are not well registered or recognised by government authorities.

The RPC said the government has its own protocols for providing training and that there are certified institutions that provide such trainings.

“This is a scam. One individual even threatened their parent that he is willing to sell his kidney if they do not send him money to travel abroad to become a billionaire. At the end, they are left stranded and come to report to the police stations,” Mr Mkama said, adding that the suspects would be arraigned after completion of investigation.
