PMT kin pushes sports tourism, OCR promotion

DAR ES SALAAM: FROM June 27 to June 30, 2025, the Technical Commission Members of Pentathlon Multispot Tanzania (PMT) engaged in two significant activities aimed at advancing sports and tourism initiatives within the country.
PMT members participated in a comprehensive survey of the proposed route for the upcoming Meru Forest OCR Challenge, scheduled for August 30-31, 2025.
According to one of the PMT officials, Abdallah Chapa, the race will cover approximately 10 kilometres and feature over 10 obstacles.
This event is organised in collaboration with Quality Sports Promotion and the Meru Forest Authorities.
Chapa said, during the survey, PMT provided expert advice on optimal race management strategies and recommended obstacle types suitable for the challenging terrain.
This event marks Tanzania’s first official Obstacle Course Race (OCR), anticipated to attract around 100 athletes from both within and outside the country. He stressed that in parallel, PMT conducted a visit to Makuyuni Wildlife Park, situated approximately 70 kilometres from Arusha.

“This visit is part of a broader initiative to foster collaborations between sports and tourism sectors, enhancing the country’s sports tourism potential,” he said. He added that the aim is to develop guidelines that will facilitate the expansion of sports tourism activities, creating mutually beneficial opportunities for both sectors.
Chapa noted that PMT, representing a coalition of ten member clubs, is committed to establishing clear guidelines to promote sports tourism, thereby unlocking new avenues for economic growth and community engagement.
