Petrol, kerosene prices surge in March

TANZANIA: MOTORISTS using petroleum products yesterday started feeling the sting at the pump after the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) unveiled a significant price hike.

According to EWURA’s March cap prices, the Free On Board (FOB) prices increased by 1.44 per cent for petrol and 5.87 per cent for kerosene, while diesel prices decreased by 1.02 per cent.

In the month under review, premiums at Dar es Salaam Port dropped by an average of 0.51 per cent for petrol and 1.91 per cent for kerosene, while diesel premiums surged by 24.42 per cent.

At Tanga Port, premiums rose by 2.60 per cent for both petrol and diesel, with no changes reported at Mtwara Port. According to EWURA, the retail price of petrol in Dar es Salaam rose to 2,996/- per litre, up from 2,820/- last month and 3,163/- in the same month last year.

Diesel will be sold at 2,885/- per litre in March, up from 2,703/- in February and 3,126/- per litre in the same month last year. Kerosene will be sold at 3,036/- per litre in Dar es Salaam in March, up from 2,710/- in February and 2,840/- in the same month last year.

In Tanga Region, petrol prices will be 3,042/- per litre in March, up from 2,825/- in February and 3,209/- in the same month last year. Diesel prices rose to 2,932/- per litre from 2,749/- in the preceding month and 3,173/- in the corresponding period last year.

Kerosene prices increased to 3,082/- per litre from 2,756/- in February and 2,886/- in the same period last year.

The prices for petrol in Mtwara will be 3,069/- per litre, up from 2,892/- and 3,155/- in the corresponding period last year. The prices for diesel in Mtwara rose to 2,958/- per litre in March, up from 2,775/- in the preceding month and 3,070/- in the same period a year ago.

Kerosene prices in Mtwara will settle at 3,108/- per litre in the month under review, up from 2,782/- in February and 2,913/- in the same month last year.

Motorists in Kyerwa District, Kagera Region, will have to dig deeper in the month under review, paying 3,234/- per litre of petrol, compared to 3,058/- in the preceding month and 3,401/- in the same month last year.

Diesel price increased to 3,123/- per litre from 2,941/- in February and 3,364/- in the corresponding month last year.
