PCCB donates neonatal equipment to Kitete
TABORA: THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) have donated neonatal medical equipment to Kitete Regional Referral Hospital in Tabora to strengthen the treatment of premature babies.
The donation, comprising an Infant Radiant Warmer and a Phototherapy Unit, was handed over recently by PCCB Deputy Director General, Ms Neema Mwakalyelye during a ceremony witnessed by Acting Tabora Regional Commissioner, Ms Upendo Wella.
Ms Wella commended PCCB employees for voluntarily contributing their own money to purchase the equipment, saying the initiative set a good example for other public servants and stakeholders.
“Apart from performing our normal duties, we have a responsibility to support the communities around us. The government is doing a lot, but our country is vast and needs are many,” she said.
She urged public servants and stakeholders from different sectors to complement government efforts in improving health services and saving lives.
Ms Mwakalyelye said Kitete Hospital was among regional referral hospitals benefiting from the initiative, which has so far delivered 25 neonatal machines to health facilities across the country.

She said Tabora became the 23rd region to benefit from the programme and clarified that the equipment was purchased through voluntary contributions from PCCB employees rather than the bureau’s operational budget.
“The initiative reflects the staff’s commitment to supporting communities while complementing government efforts to improve maternal and child healthcare services,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the Tabora Regional Medical Officer, Makuri Kambarage thanked PCCB for the donation and called on more stakeholders to support the health sector.
Kitete Regional Referral Hospital Medical Officer-in-Charge, Dr Joachim Eyembe described the donation as historic, saying the equipment would strengthen the hospital’s capacity to care for premature babies and help save more lives.
