ORCI rubbishes claims it has halted cancer treatment services

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) has refuted claims circulating on social media alleging that one of its radiotherapy machines has malfunctioned, resulting in a halt in cancer treatment services and causing public anxiety.
In an official statement shared via the Ministry of Health’s social media platform, ORCI’s Communication and Public Relations Officer, Islam Mposso, confirmed that all radiotherapy machines at the facility are fully operational and that treatment services are continuing without interruption.
“The rumors are completely unfounded. We urge the public to disregard such claims, as there is no radiotherapy machine that is out of service. All patients are receiving care as scheduled, “the statement stated.

It further noted that, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance cancer treatment services, the government has finalized the procurement of two new radiotherapy machines to support the institute’s growing demand.
The institute further emphasized that all services are provided in strict accordance with national health guidelines and that no patient is being denied access to treatment.
ORCI concluded its statement with a call for the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate and timely information.
Citizens were urged to avoid spreading unverified claims that could incite unnecessary fear or confusion.
“We encourage the public to follow updates only from official sources either from the Institute itself or through relevant government authorities,” the statement said.
