Mwanza residents see epic Kwanza Fishing Expo in 2026

MWANZA: KWANZA Fishing Expo 2026  has been  officially launched here today bringing together various stakeholders in the fishing and fish farming sector, as well as encouraging investment, the use of technology and adding value to fish products in the country.

Speaking today at the launch of the  two day Exhibition at Furahisha grounds in Mwanza, the Coordinator and the Managing Director of Kwanza Fishing Expo 2026 Mr Lordrick Furan said the exhibition has brought together large and small stakeholders in the fishing sector, including fishermen, fish farmers, producers and processors of fish products as well as other stakeholders involved in the value chain of the sector.

He said the main goal is to build solidarity between stakeholders and create an environment that will enable the fishing sector to grow further, while providing opportunities for citizens to learn technology and best practices in the production, processing and trade of fish products.

“This Exhibition is an opportunity to bring together stakeholders in the fishing sector, including small and large, to build solidarity, add value to fish products and use technology in developing this sector,” he said.

He added that government institutions and the private sector should continue to participate in events and activities aimed at developing fishing and fish farming to ensure the sector becomes more competitive and reaches international markets.

For her part, a representative from the fish farming group namely “Feed the Nation”, Gines Isaya said that youth should use the opportunities available in fish farming as a way to gain employment and increase income.

She said that the demand for fish continues to be high due to the importance of fish in daily food, so there is a great opportunity for youth and other citizens to invest in fish farming.

“Youth should learn fish farming because it is an opportunity that can help individuals increase their income and overall increase the national income,” She said.

In addition, she called on Mwanza residents to learn good fish farming methods and use technologies that can increase production and reduce the challenges faced by fish farmers.

A trainer from the Fisheries Education and Training Agency (FETA), Ms Anita Lodina said the government has continued to create an enabling environment for citizens to participate in fish farming activities and encourage investment in the sector.

She said fish farming is among the areas with great economic opportunities, so citizens should be encouraged to join the business to increase their income and contribute to the development of the country.  nation.

“Fish farming is an area that the Government has continued to prioritize. The residents  should be encouraged to join the fish farming business,” she said.

However, She said there are still challenges in the availability of fish feed, noting that the number of fish feed producers is still small compared to the current demand.

She said this situation provides an opportunity for traders and investors to establish fish feed factories to increase its availability and help fish farmers increase production.

She urged participants of the Kwanza Fishing Expo 2026 to use the exhibition to learn new technologies, exchange experiences and build business networks that will help grow the fishing and fish farming sector.
