Muhimbili specialists brace for a 4-day medical camp in Zanzibar

DAR ES SALAAM: MUHIMBILI National Hospital (MNH) is set to provide super specialist medical services in a four-day special medical camp for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases for the people of Zanzibar.
The medical camp will be held from February 3 to 6, 2026, at the Amani Complex grounds, Unguja Island.
Speaking to journalists about the camp, the Medical Director of the Ministry of Health in Zanzibar, Dr Msafiri Marijani, said the camp will involve specialist medical doctors from Muhimbili in collaboration with Zanzibar health professionals, as part of the Government’s efforts to provide specialist services to the people, especially in dealing with the increase in non-communicable diseases.

He said non-communicable diseases have continued to increase and have become a major public health challenge, emphasizing the importance of early health screening to detect and control them at an early stage.
For his part, the Head of the Department of Research and Training, Dr Robert Moshiro, on behalf of the Executive Director of Muhimbili National Hospital, said the camp aims to strengthen long-term cooperation between Muhimbili and Zanzibar, in exchanging experiences and building the capacity of health professionals.
He added that patients who are found to have serious problems will be referred for further treatment at the relevant facilities.
And the Manager of Vodacom Foundation Tanzania, Sandra Oswald, said the institution will continue to collaborate with the government in supporting efforts to improve health services in Zanzibar.
He explained that such camps have already been held in nine regions of Tanzania Mainland and reached more than ten thousand citizens.
At the camp, citizens will receive diagnostic services, treatment, and health education for various diseases, including maternal and reproductive health, cancer, diabetes, blood pressure, heart diseases, kidney, teeth, skin, eyes, ears, nose and throat, as well as emergency services.
Services will be provided daily from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm for all four days, as part of the government’s efforts to ensure that quality services reach all citizens regardless of distance.
