Moshi readies for epic Kili Marathon

MOSHI: JUST a week before the the Kilimanjaro International Marathon’s flag off, the organizers have announced details of the routes and other logistics to enable the safety of participants of the grand race.
A statement issued by the organizers said this will help Moshi residents and visitors to plan their travels in advance and use alternative routes during the temporary closure on Sunday 22 March 2026 when the race will take place.
According to the statement, Sokoine Road from KCMC corner to Kilimanjaro Road will be closed from 6am-9.30am. Motorists can use alternative routes to Moshi via Shanty Town and Rau, and to Mweka same routes.
Also to be closed is Kilimanjaro Road– from corner of Kilimanjaro Road and Sokoine Road from 7:45am-9:30am. “This will allow runners to get to the event parking at CCP and Mocu Parking via Uru Road gate in time for all race starts and will then be closed to allow runners free access.
The organizers stated that Msoka to Mweka Road via Kibosho will also be closed both ways from 6:30am – 8:30 am while Moshi Club to Weru Weru via Old Bridge and Wessa Club will be closed from Lema Road (Old Glacier corner) from 7:15am – 9:15am.
“There will be traffic control along the whole route, especially the Umbwe Road crossing point and all river crossings and the turning point,” added the organizers.

“Police will be controlling traffic along the whole route from 6am to 12:30pm. Motorists are asked to drive slowly and carefully and be aware of runners,” said the organizers who also cautioned motorists to drive slowly and carefully and be aware of the runners and where possible it is suggested that trucks and buses should avoid the marathon route as they may be pulled over for long periods.
The organizers further warned that any motorists including boda bodas found driving dangerously will be arrested and called on runners to also exercise necessary caution when crossing roads.
Regarding drop off areas for mini buses and taxis, the organizers said that these can drop at either of the allocated parking areas or at the road sides.
