Z’bar First Lady calls for support to vulnerable groups

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR First Lady Ms Mariam Mwinyi has called on the community to continue supporting vulnerable elderly people and orphaned children to enable them to live dignified lives in safe and caring environment.

Her message was delivered on her behalf by the Deputy Minister for Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Ms Zawadi Amour Nassor, during the distribution of Ramadan iftar donations on Thursday.

The donations were presented to elderly residents at the Kifumbikai Elderly Care Centre and to orphaned children at centres in Micheweni, North Pemba Region.

Speaking during the event, Ms Nassor said society has an important responsibility to care for the elderly who have served the nation with dedication.

“Looking after the elderly brings great blessings and is a way of appreciating the valuable contributions they have made to our nation,” Ms Nassor said on behalf of the First Lady.

Through her organisation, the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation (ZMBF), the First Lady pledged continued support for government efforts aimed at assisting vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly and orphaned children.

She also called on institutions and other stakeholders to join hands in supporting people in need.

Representing the elderly, Mr Saidi Bakari and Ms Subira Omar Muhammed expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her compassion and continued support, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
