DAR ES SALAAM: Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA) National Chairperson Freeman Mbowe collected nomination forms in Dar es Salaam on Saturday evening as he seeks re-election for the opposition party’s top post.
Accompanied by some party members who supported his decision, Mbowe arrived at the party’s headquarters in Dar es Salaam and was handed the nomination forms.
In addition to Mbowe, the party’s Vice-Chairperson, Tundu Lissu, is another prominent CHADEMA figure eyeing the top position.
Before collecting the forms, Mbowe met with journalists and supporters in the city, where he officially declared his intention to contest for the CHADEMA chairmanship. He also informed party members that, if re-elected, this would be his final tenure as CHADEMA chairperson.

“I would like to assure Tanzanians that the party is completely safe. On several occasions, I have contemplated resigning from the position, but I cannot abandon the party during its struggles. Therefore, I am with CHADEMA, I will remain, and I will contest,” Mbowe said.
During the meeting, Mbowe emphasized that he remains fit and energetic to continue handling the responsibilities associated with the chairmanship.
“Those who say that I am tired, I don’t know what criteria they are using to claim that. I am very energetic and can hold eight rallies in one day without eating,” he stated.
Mbowe also stressed that term limits within CHADEMA are determined through the ballot box, not arbitrarily. He expressed confidence in contesting for the position again, highlighting that only the people’s vote can decide his future.
