DODOMA: THE Minister for Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, has directed that all licensed large and medium-scale mining projects commence operations without delay.
Speaking in Dodoma at the end of the week during a special meeting with the Tanzania Chamber of Mines (TCM), Mr Mavunde stressed that the prompt execution of these projects is essential for the sector’s growth and national economic benefits.
“The government has done its part by removing multiple obstacles and simplifying procedures. Now it is time for investors to take action and ensure that these projects begin immediately,” he stated.
He said the government remains committed to working with key stakeholders, including TCM, to resolve any challenges investors may face, thereby ensuring steady growth in the mining industry.
He further reaffirmed the government’s goal of enhancing the sector’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and overall economic development.

“We will coordinate with relevant institutions to identify and address existing bottlenecks swiftly. We do not want bureaucracy to hinder the progress of this vital sector. This government is united in its mission,” he asserted.
Mavunde also highlighted the significance of research in the mining industry, emphasising that longterm sustainability depends on substantial investment in scientific exploration.
He commended stakeholders for their ongoing efforts in implementing the “Vision 2030: Mining for Life and Wealth” initiative, aimed at expanding exploration activities, creating employment opportunities, reinforcing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments and promoting local content participation.
Regarding the sector’s economic impact, Mavunde reported that the mining industry’s GDP contribution increased from 7.2 per cent in the 2022/23 financial year to 9.0 per cent in 2023/24.
The government aims to achieve a minimum 10 percent contribution by 2025, aligning with the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) 2020-2025 election manifesto and the National Development Plan.
