DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA National Football Team – Taifa Stars has made the entire nation proud by securing a spot in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The remarkable achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication and determination of the players, coaches and technical staff.
The Taifa Stars have shown exceptional skill and resilience throughout the qualifiers and their success is a long-awaited triumph for Tanzanian football.
This year has been a historic one for Tanzanian football, with our national teams excelling across all levels.
The Twiga Stars, our women’s senior team, secured their place in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations and the Ngorongoro Heroes, our men’s Under-20 team, continue to shine on the continental stage.
These successes, along with the Taifa Stars’ AFCON qualification, highlight the growing strength of Tanzanian football. A special mention goes to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, whose unwavering support has been crucial in the team’s success.
From offering planes for travel to providing motivational rewards, her leadership has played a pivotal role in ensuring the national teams have the resources they need to excel.
The final qualifying match sparked nationwide celebrations as Tanzania secured their fourth-ever AFCON qualification.
This achievement is especially significant, following their historic return to the tournament in 2019, which ended a 39-year drought.
After their impressive qualification in 2019, Tanzania made a strong comeback in 2023 and this year’s qualification marks the first time the Taifa Stars have qualified for back-to-back AFCON tournaments. Notably, this is also the first time Tanzania has qualified under the leadership of Tanzanian coach Hemed Suleiman, further solidifying his legacy in the nation’s football history.
While this qualification is a huge achievement, it is essential to focus on preparation for the 2024 finals in Morocco.
The team’s goal should not just participate but to aim for excellence—pushing beyond the group stages and striving to reach the quarterfinals. The nation is proud, but we must continue working hard to achieve even greater success. The Taifa Stars have made us proud—now, let’s keep pushing for more glory!
