Kibong’oto Hospital to be upgraded into Infectious Diseases Institute
KILIMANJARO: THE Minister of Health Jenista Mhagama has announced that Kibong’oto Infectious Disease Treatment Hospital in Siha District, Kilimanjaro Region, is set to be upgraded into an Infectious Disease Institute, alongside efforts to strengthen healthcare systems for the treatment of such diseases.
Minister Mhagama made these remarks during her visit to the hospital to inspect the implementation of various government-funded projects, including the establishment of a medical gas production unit and the procurement of modern medical waste incinerators.
“We have made strategic plans in the health sector. Alongside other specialized healthcare services, we want to prove to the world that Tanzania is well-prepared in the field of infectious diseases by ensuring our treatment systems are robust,” she stated.

She emphasized that infectious diseases can emerge anywhere in the country. However, with the significant investment made under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership, Tanzania is well-equipped to combat these diseases by adhering to established health protocols and systems.
“This facility will now serve as a center of excellence in infectious disease management. I am pleased that when I inaugurated the Board, we agreed on the need for a practical strategic plan to guide us towards sustainable goals. Now, I can see its implementation taking shape,” Minister Mhagama.
