Coast Region prepares disaster response teams to help vulnerable groups ahead of El Niño rains

KIBAHA: PWANI Region has put in place measures through disaster response teams to ensure that vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities, the elderly and children, receive assistance and protection during the El Niño rains expected in the coming weeks.

Speaking to journalists at his office in Kibaha on preparations to respond to the expected rains, Pwani Regional Commissioner Stanslaus Nyongo said the region had begun taking precautionary measures to minimise potential impacts.

Nyongo said the preparations are focused on ensuring the safety of all groups during the rainy season, with particular attention given to vulnerable people who may require immediate assistance in the event of flooding or other rain-related emergencies.

He said disaster response teams are prepared to take swift action whenever necessary, including providing assistance to residents in affected areas.

Nyongo also urged journalists and media organisations to exercise caution when reporting on the expected rains, stressing the importance of relying on accurate information from relevant authorities.

He warned that the dissemination of inaccurate information could cause unnecessary panic among the public, urging journalists to ensure that information shared with the public is verified by the responsible authorities.
