DAR ES SALAAM: JKT Tanzania advanced to the Federation Cup round of 16 after a convincing 3-0 win against Mbeya Kwanza at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

From the outset JKT Tanzania dictated the pace of the match. In the 10th minute, a defensive blunder by Mbeya Kwanza allowed Salum Hamis’s cross to be inadvertently directed into the net by defender Ibrahim Ngecha, giving JKT an early lead. Just three minutes later, JKT doubled their advantage when Edward Songo capitalised on a poor back pass, racing in to score.

By the 20th minute, Shiza Kichuya’s precise cross found Songo, who made no mistake in extending the lead to 3-0. Despite JKT’s dominance, Mbeya Kwanza endeavoured to fight back in the first half.

They came close in the 36th minute after a promising attack, but Bakari Kayoko’s decision-making let them down.

Their best chance came in the 41st minute with a free-kick from Enock Mkanga, which failed to trouble JKT goalkeeper, Denis Richard.

JKT continued to control the game, and although Mbeya Kwanza pressed for a goal, they struggled to create clear opportunities.

Late in the game, an open chance for Hassan Dilunga to extend JKT’s lead was missed when he shot over the bar. In the end, JKT Tanzania outclassed Mbeya Kwanza, showcasing their intent for the title.
