JKT Queens eye top spot in crucial duel

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Women’s Premier League (TWPL) roars back into action today with a high-stakes showdown between title contenders JKT Queens and third-placed Yanga Princess at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam.

This eagerly anticipated match was originally slated for the Major General Isamuhyo Stadium but was rescheduled due to ongoing renovations at the venue ahead of the upcoming CHAN tournament.

With the season entering its critical phase, every point matters and for JKT Queens, the stakes could not be higher.

Sitting second on the table with 38 points from 15 matches, they trail leaders Simba Queens by just three points. A win today would pull them level with Simba (who have played one more match), reigniting their championship ambitions in dramatic fashion.

The pressure is on, but JKT arrive with confidence, boasting the most lethal attack in the league having netted a staggering 60 goals this season.

The TWPL action has already heated up earlier this week with four exciting fixtures on Monday. Simba Queens were held to a thrilling 2-2 draw by Mashujaa Queens, a result that added unexpected intrigue to the title race.

Meanwhile, Alliance Girls dispatched bottom-placed Mlandizi Queens with a commanding 3-0 win, Bunda Queens edged Ceasiaa Queens 2-1 and Fountain Princess cruised to a dominant 4-1 victory over Gets Programme.

The current standings paint a compelling picture of Simba Queens remain at the summit with 41 points, powered by 13 wins and just one loss.

JKT Queens, chasing closely, have a game in hand and the league’s highest goal tally. Yanga Princess, in third with 33 points, are also in formidable form and pose a serious threat to both Simba and JKT.

At the other end of the table, Gets Program and Mlandizi Queens continue to battle relegation woes.

Mlandizi, in particular, have endured a torrid campaign, managing one win and suffering a brutal goal difference of -72.

As the league intensifies and the finish line draws closer, today’s clash could prove to be a defining moment in the race for the TWPL crown.
