Health sector public service structure review nears completion

THE Ministry of Health is at the final stages of completing the review of the health sector public service structure, with a view to improving their working conditions.

The revelation was made in the august House by deputy minister for Health, Dr Godwin Mollel when responding to a question posed by Special Seats Lawmaker, Dr Alice Kaijage (CCM).

“Why shouldn’t the government review the public service structure for medical specialists which was released in 2022?’’ asked the Special Seats MP.

Responding, the deputy minister noted that the government was implementing the Standing Orders for Public Service, 2009, at all cadres under the ministry of health which outlines the structure and qualifications for different health experts who are supposed to be employed to work at different centres providing medical services.

However, Dr Mollel insisted, currently, the ministry was finalizing its review of the health sector public service structure which is expected to be completed in May 2023.

Upon completion, he added, the new structure would be submitted to the President’s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance for approval.

“If the new structure is completed, it will put up the best working environment for public servants in the health sector including specialists,’’ added the deputy minister.
