Foster dialogue for NDV 2050 success, CSOs urged

DAR ES SALAAM: DEPUTY Minister in the President’s Office (Planning and Investment), Mr Stanslaus Nyongo, has urged Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to collaborate in discussions and develop a shared understanding to ensure the success of Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050.

He made this appeal during the inauguration of a CSO meeting in Dar es Salaam, where participants reviewed the first draft of the National Development Vision 2050.

Mr Nyongo emphasised the importance of fostering constructive dialogue between the government and development stakeholders. He stated that such collaboration, rather than criticism, is vital for creating an inclusive vision.

“The government is ready to listen to all stakeholders and citizens to ensure that Vision 2050 is realistic and reflects the aspirations of the people,” he remarked.

Drawing from his experience as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Services, Mr Nyongo shared that, in his interactions with civil society committees, he has often seen that criticisms were intended to raise awareness of critical issues, not to undermine the government.

On his part, Director of the Foundation for Civil Society (FCS) Mr Justice Rutenge, commended the government’s efforts to include CSOs in the drafting of the National Development Vision 2050.

He highlighted the need for a competitive economy over the next 25 years to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth.

Meanwhile, Head of Programmes for the United Nations Association of Tanzania (UNA-Tanzania), Mr Lucas Kifyasi, called for a strong focus on education, particularly in technology, to prepare for the industrial revolutions expected in the coming decades.

This emphasis on education, he said, is crucial to strengthening Tanzania’s economy and ensuring future success.
