Vision 2050 draft set for launch next week

DAR ES SALAAM: AS the first draft of the National Development Vision 2050 is set to be launched next week, the government has identified key areas that citizens and stakeholders expect to be prioritised, including strong and thriving economy that improve their livelihoods.

The citizens also expect that quality health and education services will be prioritised in the development document.

According to the Minister of State in the President’s Office (Planning and Investment), Prof Kitila Mkumbo the public is aware of the significant investments done in social services but they need more emphasis to be placed on quality and sustainability of the services in Vision 2050.

Furthermore, citizens have advised that the economy should reflect reality and lives of all Tanzanians. Prof Mkumbo, told journalists and editors on Friday in Dar es Salaam that, the draft will be launched on December 11, in Zanzibar by President Hussen Mwinyi.

The launch follows a comprehensive process of collecting feedback from over 1.17 million citizens and stakeholders between December last year and October this year.

The feedback was gathered through various methods, including household surveys, SMS messages (USSD), websites, conferences, in-depth interviews, discussions with current and former leaders, meetings, seminars and collected documents.

“The launch of the Draft Vision 2050 will coincide with the second phase of collecting stakeholder feedback. This phase will focus on the validation of the Draft Vision 2050,” said Prof Mkumbo.

The Minister stated that the exercise will conclude on January 18, 2025, when the Prime Minister will receive and launch the second draft of the improved Vision 2050, based on stakeholder input during the validation phase.

He added that between January and March 2025, the Draft Vision 2050 will be discussed and decided upon by government bodies, including the Permanent Secretaries, the National Planning Commission and the Ministers Cabinet.

He noted, between April and May 2025, the Draft Vision 2050 will be received, discussed and formally approved and enacted into an Act by the National assembly. Prof Mkumbo said, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, is expected to officially launch the National Development Vision 2050 between May and June next year, after its third phase of parliamentary approval.

“Preparations for Vision 2050 are aligned with the development of the Long-Term Perspective Plan (LTPP), which will interpret the aspirations and goals outlined in Vision 2050,” said Prof Mkumbo.

Furthermore, he expressed gratitude for those participated in the primary stage stating that it was highly inclusive and urged all Tanzanians to actively participate in all stages leading up to the official launch day.

Speaking on behalf of the media outlets, the Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF) Chairman, Deodatus Balile, expressed his enthusiasm for seeing Tanzania prioritise the industrial sector and quality education consistently for country progress.

“In order to advance our country, the National Vision must be a tool that unites the nation in such a way that any changes in leadership do not lead to changes in the existing priorities of the Vision,” said Mr Balile.
