DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA Head coach Fadlu Davids has praised his team’s resilience and fighting spirit following their dominant 3-0 victory over Tanzania Prisons on Tuesday in the Mainland Premier League, held at KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam.

The result not only thrilled the coach but also saw Simba leapfrog their arch-rivals, Yanga, to reclaim the top spot on the league table.

The victory was crucial for Simba, who bounced back from a recent setback to assert their dominance over the Mbeya based Tanzania Prisons side.

“A great response from the players after last week’s disappointment as the team played well, created chances, and converted them into goals,” Coach Fadlu said with a smile.

Jean Ahoua opened the scoring in the 26th minute, followed by Elie Mpanzu’s strike in the 44th minute before Ladack Chasambi sealed the win with a goal just before halftime in the 45th minute.

Simba’s high-pressing game was another highlight of the match, with Coach Fadlu expressing satisfaction with how his team executed his tactical setup.

“A fantastic display from the Red, great high pressing performance, I am very pleased with how my team approached the game.” he praised.

The coach also took the opportunity to thank Simba’s passionate supporters for their unwavering backing.

“The fans turned up in great numbers. Their support was incredible, and it definitely helped lift the team,” he said,

noting the positive effect it had, especially on Ladack Chasambi after his earlier mistake in the match against Fountain Gate.

On the other hand, Tanzania Prisons head coach Aman Josiah acknowledged his team’s defensive lapses and lack of cohesion, particularly in the first half, which ultimately cost them the match.

Despite the loss, Josiah remained optimistic, stating, “My players fought hard and tried to create few chances, but luck wasn’t on our side. As a coach, I will work closely with the team to ensure we improve in our upcoming matches.” Meanwhile, Kagera Sugar suffered another defeat, this time at the hands of Tabora United, who triumphed 2-1 in their Mainland Premier League showdown.

This marked Kagera’s second consecutive loss. As it stands, Simba leads the league with 47 points from 18 matches, while Tanzania Prisons remains in 14th place with 17 points from the same number of games.

In another development, the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) has postponed the match between Simba and Dodoma Jiji, originally scheduled for this weekend on February 15 at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam.

The match has been suspended following a road accident involving Dodoma Jiji’s squad in Lindi region, while travelling to Dar es Salaam after their game against Namungo FC at the Majaliwa Stadium in Ruangwa District.

Several players and team staff were injured in the accident. TPLB has announced that a new date for the match will be unveiled soon.
