DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed her admiration for the impressive performances of Tanzanian football clubs, Simba SC and Young Africans, during the CAF interclub competitions over the weekend.

She took to her Instagram account to congratulate Simba on advancing to the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup, saying, “Congratulations to Simba SC for advancing to the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup! In a similar vein, she applauded Young Africans for their hard-fought 1-0 away victory against Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League, stating, “Congratulations to Yanga SC for winning the CAF Champions League match! However, amid the celebrations, challenges still loom. Simba’s defender Che Fondoh Malone openly acknowledged his mistake in a misplaced pass that led to an early goal conceded. In a heartfelt apology to the fans, he took full responsibility for his error. Yet, despite this setback, Simba demonstrated remarkable resilience, managing to equalize and securing a crucial result. Malone expressed his remorse on Instagram, stating, “I wish to apologize to the entire Simba family for costing them greatly on two game days. I take total responsibility for my mistakes and promise to work harder and do better in the days ahead. I’m truly sorry. Thank you fans for always encouraging me despite my disappointments.”

On the celebrating side for Young Africans, Stephen Aziz Ki, the attacking midfielder who scored the winning goal, shared his reflections via Instagram, noting, “Positive thoughts create positive realities.” Meanwhile, Simba’s Leonel Atteba, who scored the equalizer against Bravos do Maquis in Angola, remarked in a press conference, “Today we played a good game. I thank all my teammates and the technical team. We take this qualification as motivation to work harder. It’s not easy when you concede first against a strong team.”

Looking ahead, as the teams prepare for crucial matches in the competition, Simba’s Head Coach, Fadlu Davids, called upon the club’s supporters to fill the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium for their decisive second-leg match against CS Constantine in the CAF Confederation Cup. This match, set to take place in Dar es Salaam, will determine Simba’s top position in Group A.

After an impressive performance in Angola, where Simba secured a vital 1-1 draw against Bravos do Maquis, Davids emphasized the importance of fan support in achieving victory over Constantine. “First of all, well done to the players and supporters of Simba,” he said.

“But I have one request to the Simba fans – we have 60,000 tickets available, and I urge everyone to come for that last match against Constantine. They know we need to win, but without their support, we cannot. Let’s fill up Benjamin Mkapa; let’s make it a huge spectacle to ensure we qualify at the top of the group,” he added.

With the enthusiasm building and the stakes high, both clubs and their supporters are prepared for an exciting continuation of their journey in the CAF competitions.
