Embarce ICT for global tech achievements, students urged

RUVUMA: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has called on students at Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Girls’ Secondary School to embrace the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training at the institution to keep pace with rapid global technological advancements, including Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Equally, she emphasized the need for the students to move away from traditional learning methods and keep pace with the digital in the world, described it ass critical for their future success.
President Samia made the call during the school’s inauguration in Namtumbo District on Friday, where She urged them to seize the opportunity to become proficient in ICT.

“The world is transitioning to ICT and Artificial Intelligence. Use this opportunity to master these technologies and prepare yourselves for the future,” she said.
President Samia said the school constructed at 4.2 bn/-, is part of a broader initiative to promote girls’ education, particularly in science and technology fields.
She also reiterated her government’s ongoing commitment to improving the education sector.

She noted that, in 2023, the government built 20 new schools in the Ruvuma region, bringing the total number of government owned schools to 815 out of 860.
Additionally, she highlighted the allocation of 14.5 bn/- this year to support the free education policy, which has led to a significant increase in student enrollment.
“The government will continue to address various challenges available in the education sector, including the shortage of teachers, to ensure quality education for all,” she said.
On his part Minister of State in the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG)) Mohamed Mchengerwa, noted that under the Tanzania Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQUIP), 28 girls’ secondary schools have already been constructed across the country at a total cost of 108bn/- , with 4,800 students currently enrolled.

The Director of Namtumbo District Council Mr. Philemon Magesa, said the new school currently accommodates 548 students in Forms One, Five, and Six.
He said the school is equipped with modern ICT facilities and a dining hall powered by clean energy.
He also added that the school accommodates students with special needs and features 22 buildings, including nine dormitories.
The inauguration of the school forms part of President Samia’s ongoing tour of the Ruvuma region, which also includes the inauguration of various development projects.
