Dr Samia calls for greater innovation to elevate the DITF to a global status

DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has called for greater innovation to elevate the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, Sabasaba to higher international standards, saying the exhibition has become a key driver of trade, investment and economic growth over the past five decades.

Speaking at the official opening of the 50th edition of the fair, President Samia said the annual exhibition has, for 50 years, served as a vital platform linking producers with buyers, businesses with markets, investors with opportunities and Tanzania with the global economy.

Elaborating, the Head of State noted that the fair has transformed the lives of many Tanzanians, with small-scale traders, farmers, entrepreneurs and innovators using the platform to secure markets, acquire business knowledge, attract investment and build lasting commercial partnerships.

“As we celebrate 50 years of this international trade fair, we are not merely marking an exhibition. We are celebrating the hard work of our business community, the innovation of the private sector, the contribution of our industries and Tanzania’s growing role in regional and international trade that continues to drive our economy,” she said.

Additionally, The President welcomed the increasing number of exhibitors, saying the trend demonstrates growing confidence in Tanzania as a leading destination for trade and investment and as a gateway to markets in East Africa, the Southern African Development Community, the African continent and beyond.

She noted that the presence of international exhibitors and logistics investors, including companies from China, reflects the expanding global reach of the trade fair and its contribution to strengthening Tanzania’s position in international commerce.

Furthermore, she urged organisers and stakeholders to continue innovating to make the exhibition even more competitive on the global stage.
