Digital push targets fast public services

ZANZIBAR: DIGITAL systems are being expanded across public institutions in efforts to improve efficiency, reduce delays and strengthen transparency in service delivery.

Acting Minister for State, President’s Office – Constitution, Legal Affairs, Public Service and Good Governance Suleiman Masoud Makame told the House of Representatives in Chukwani, Unguja that the reforms are aimed at simplifying access to government services while reducing rooms for corruption.

He was responding to concerns raised by Representative Abdulwahab Said Abubakar (Chakechake, CCM) over delays in public services that inconvenience people and create rooms for corruption.

Mr Makame said the government was scaling up the use of digital platforms including ZanAjira for employment services, ZanMalipo for electronic payments and other digital tax payment systems.

“These systems are aimed at improving efficiency, increasing transparency and ensuring people can access services more easily,” he said.

He noted that the Public Service Office was also reinforcing implementation of service charters requiring institutions to deliver services within specified timelines.

The government is further investing in television and radio awareness campaigns to educate people on how to use digital services effectively.

Makame said reducing direct human interaction in service delivery remains one of the key strategies for minimising inefficiencies and corruption risks.
