Tanzania readies to establish special ICT training centre for teachers with disabilities in Dodma 

DODOMA: PLANS are underway to establish a dedicated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training centre for teachers with disabilities to expand their access to professional development and technology skills.

This initiative was discussed during a conversation between the Tanzania Teachers’ Union (CWT) and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Mohammed Khamis Abdulla, in Mtumba, Dodoma, to review implementation of the proposed centre.

According to information from the Ministry of  Information and Communication Technology (ICT) the meeting focused on progress towards establishing the centre and measures needed to ensure the programme is implemented effectively.

“The initiative aims to equip teachers with disabilities with ICT skills and promote equal opportunities in professional and workplace development,” the ministry stated.

During the meeting, CWT was represented by the Head of the Department for Teachers with Disabilities, on behalf of Acting Secretary General Mwl Protas Magesa.

The programme is expected to increase the participation of teachers with disabilities in the use of technology while expanding opportunities for their professional advancement.

“As an initial step, ICT training will be provided through the Universal Communications Service Fund in five proposed regions—Dar es Salaam, Coast, Morogoro, Dodoma and Singida,” he said.
