Dar City extend unbeaten BDL run
DAR ES SALAAM: DEFENDING champions Dar City continued their dominant run in the ongoing 2026 Basketball Dar es Salaam League (BDL), after cruising to a 95-42 victory over Srelio at Don Bosco Upanga courts on Thursday evening.
The victory extended Dar City’s unbeaten run to 13 games, keeping them as the only men’s team among the 16 participating sides yet to lose a match in the annual competition organised by the Basketball Dar es Salaam Association (BD).
Dar City set the pace from the opening quarter, leading 20-10 before extending their advantage to 44-30 at halftime.
They then took complete control after the break, outscoring Srelio 25-8 in the third quarter before sealing the emphatic win with a 26-4 final period.
Nkosinathi Sibanyoni led Dar City’s scoring with 17 points, while Sisco Ngaiza added 16. Srelio’s Badru Bilal and Davison Evarist each scored 16 points in a losing effort.
In another men’s encounter, UDSM Outsiders secured a 46-31 victory over JKT.
UDSM Outsiders led 9-7 after the opening quarter and maintained the same two-point advantage at halftime. They then pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring JKT 19-11 before closing out the match with a 9-6 final-quarter advantage.
Alifani Mustaph was UDSM Outsiders’ leading scorer with 14 points, followed by Felix Muteba with 12. JKT’s John Rogath scored 11 points, while Mussa Chacha added six.
In the women’s category, Jeshi Stars defeated Vijana Queens 60-40 after leading throughout the game.
Jeshi Stars established a 16-9 advantage in the opening quarter and went into halftime with a 30-22 lead.
They maintained their momentum after the interval, winning the third quarter 15-8 before completing the victory with another 15-10 advantage in the final period.
Namary Cyprian top-scored for Jeshi Stars with 16 points, while captain Monalisa Kaijage contributed 13. Vijana Queens were led by Maria Mbena with 14 points, while Maryshallet Anyiti scored six.
The results from all matches played at Don Bosco Upanga further intensify the competition as teams continue their push for top positions in the BDL, while defending champions Dar City maintain their impressive unbeaten record.
