Company urges manufacturers to embrace clean energy

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Clarke Energy, a provider of power plant solutions, has called on Tanzania’s manufacturers to adopt clean energy to enhance production efficiency.

The company issued the advice over the weekend ahead of the African Energy Summit, which kicks off today in Dar es Salaam.

The company’s Deputy General Manager, Mr Tarak Jani, emphasised clean energy as a key solution to frequent power outages that disrupt industrial activities.

“Tanzania’s challenge is not power generation but reliable distribution. Many industries suffer significant losses due to power outages, which severely affect production efficiency,” Jani said.

Tanzania boasts an estimated 57.54 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves, with 47.4 trillion cubic feet discovered offshore and 10.12 trillion cubic feet onshore. Jani noted that this abundant resource offers an opportunity to address energy reliability issues.

Clarke Energy has been instrumental in supporting industrial production growth by offering advanced systems and technical services to strengthen Tanzania’s energy systems.

“In collaboration with the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) and the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), we provide power plants that use natural gas, offering industries cleaner and more environmentally friendly energy compared to diesel, coal and other heavy fuels,” Jani said.

He added that the company trains its customers to operate natural gas power plants efficiently, including recovering heat, steam, or cooling from the exhaust section of the plants to reduce carbon emissions.

“We aim to take practical steps to improve Tanzania’s energy sector by partnering with key organisations like TANESCO and TPDC to ensure reliable electricity for industries, institutions and communities,” he added.

Clarke Energy’s General Manager, Mr Emile Hamman, highlighted the company’s focus on strengthening the energy sector through partnerships with industries, independent power producers (IPPs) and government agencies.

“Clarke Energy does not directly invest in energy generation projects but provides power generation equipment and aftersales services. For instance, we facilitated energy production using natural gas at the Somanga power station in Lindi Region,” Hamman explained.

He announced plans to expand services to regions with high industrial activity, including Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Arusha, while collaborating with TPDC to improve gas distribution.

“By increasing the adoption of clean energy among manufacturers, we can boost economic efficiency and contribute to Tanzania’s development,” Hamman said.

He also highlighted the company’s commitment to local expertise, noting that Clarke Energy is operated by Tanzanians at all levels, from management to technical services, underscoring its dedication to supporting local development and clean energy solutions.
