Tanzania advises PBPA to promote its strategic role in supplying petroleum products

ZANZIBAR: THE Deputy Minister for Energy Salome Makamba has urged the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) to strengthen public education on its mandate and its role in ensuring a reliable supply of petroleum products in the country.

Makamba made the call during a visit to the PBPA exhibition pavilion at Dimbani Grounds in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, as part of the Kizimkazi Festival 2026.

She said it was important for the public to receive continued education on the Bulk Procurement System for petroleum products and how PBPA carries out its mandate to oversee the importation of fuel.

According to Makamba, greater public understanding of the system would help citizens appreciate the measures being taken to ensure a reliable and adequate supply of petroleum products in the country.

She also commended PBPA for its performance in carrying out its responsibilities and ensuring that sufficient fuel is available to meet market demand.

Speaking during the visit, PBPA Fuel Inspector Issa Mwitazy said the agency continued to fulfil its mandate of ensuring that the country maintains adequate fuel stocks to meet market requirements.

Mwitazy said PBPA’s participation in the Kizimkazi Festival 2026 had provided an opportunity for members of the public and various stakeholders to learn more about the agency’s responsibilities and how the Bulk Procurement System operates.

He added that PBPA continued to maintain strong cooperation with the Zanzibar Utilities Regulatory Authority (ZURA) on various matters concerning the petroleum sector.

The third edition of the Kizimkazi Festival 2026 is being held from August 12 to 14, 2026, with the aim of creating and promoting various development opportunities.

The festival is being held under the theme, “Kizimkazi 2026: Opportunities and Celebration.”
