Club Games medalists begin World Boxing tour today
THE Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games medalists; Yusuf Changalawe and Alex Isendi, have been pitted against Naveriani Otar of Georgia and Usmonov Bakhodur from Tajikistan respectively in their debut bouts of IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships 2023.
This year’s boxing championship is staged in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and will witness 539 boxers from 107 countries vying for medals in 13 weight categories.
The Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) President Lukelo Willilo told ‘Daily News’ that the competition officially started on Monday, with Tanzania participating for the fourth time.
He added Team Tanzania consists of four boxers: Alex Isendi, Yusuf Changalawe, Kassim Mbundwike and Alex Sulwa as Samwel Kapungu tutors them.
“There will also be cash prizes for the winners in each of the 13 weight classes.
“Those who win gold will get 200,000 US dollars (470,000,000/-), those who win silver will get 100,000 US dollars (234,000,000/-), and for the third and fourth who will get bronze they will get 50,000 US dollars (116,000,000/-)

Isendi will be the first Tanzanian boxer to gamble the chance to accelerate in the next stage as he faces the country host boxer Bakhodur in the light welterweight category at 04:00PM.
Changalawe will follow afterwards as he fights Georgian boxer, Otar in the light heavyweight.
After the opening, another Tanzanian boxer Kassim Mbundwike will fight tomorrow in the light middleweight while Alex Sulwa will clash on Thursday in the super heavyweight category.
