Mwanza Octopus set eye on regional basketball title

MWANZA: MWANZA Octopus Head Coach Gilberth Mpandashalo has set his sights on the Mwanza Regional Basketball Championship title after his side opened their campaign with an 82-66 victory over Bugando Planet at Mirongo Court in Mwanza.

He made the comments after the match, “Our main goal is to win the regional championship. We have prepared well, and looking at the quality of our team, I believe we can achieve this goal,” Mpandashalo said.

The coach praised the team’s supporters following the victory and said the players were continuing to train as they prepare for their upcoming matches.

“Our players are continuing to train because we know there are still many important games ahead. We have to remain focused and keep improving,” he said.

The Mwanza Regional Basketball League began on 5 September and is scheduled to run until November, with matches being played at weekends.

The men’s competition features 12 teams divided into four groups, while six teams are competing in the women’s tournament.

League coordinator Gerald Masso said the competition would provide an important platform for players to develop their talents and showcase their abilities.

“The league is an important platform for players to showcase their abilities and develop their talents,” Masso said.

He encouraged basketball fans and stakeholders across Mwanza Region to attend the matches and support the competition.
