Chalinze builds 2.2bn/- international standard stadium to uplift sports, create employment opportunities

CHALINZE: CHALINZE Council in Bagamoyo District, Coast Region, has begun construction of an international-standard football stadium in Msoga Ward as part of efforts to raise the level of sports and create job opportunities for youths in the country. The 2.2bn/- project is being implemented using Council’s internal funds.

Councils Planning Officer Ismail Bilal told the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Regional Committee, led by regional chairman, Mwinshehe Mlao at the construction site on Monday that the first phase of the project has so far reached 52 per cent.

“This is the first phase of construction, which started in October last year. We are implementing this project using our internal sources,” Bilal said.

He added that the project has started by building stands around the stadium and that a total of 1.2bn/- has already been spent on the works.

Engineer Theo Mfala of Mommar and Son Company Limited said construction is progressing well and the stadium, with a capacity of 8,000 seats, is expected to be completed by August this year. Coast Regional Commissioner Abubakar Kunenge told the committee that phase two of the project will include facilities for volleyball, netball, basketball and other sports.

“In phase two, we will build a sports complex for other sports. Within it there will also be a sports academy to train people of different ages. Hostels of good standard will be built here, since we expect to receive individuals from different areas who will use the complex”, he stated.

He said the project will help nurture youths’ talents, promote the region and the country in sports and tourism, and taking advantage of the area’s peaceful and attractive environment.
