DAR ES SALAAM: THE ruling party CCM has urged candidates nominated to contest for various posts in the upcoming local government election, scheduled for November 27, this year, to discard complacency, as the race will be tight.
CCM Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training Mr Amos Makalla issued the warning yesterday during a meeting with the party members at the Kiramuu Hall in Kinondoni District, Dar es Salaam Region. This was the first day of his nine-day tour of Dar es Salaam and Coast regions.
Mr Makalla said that the civic polls are crucial because development within the community is closely linked to competency of the local government leaders.
In addition, Mr Makalla encouraged CCM members to maintain the enthusiasm they showed during the opinion poll process.
He said that the process attracted over 500,000 members countrywide, with a good number of members taking part in the voting process.
Makalla noted that by doing this, CCM has set a positive example of how leaders can be selected through democratic means.
Furthermore, he urged leaders at all levels, from wards to regions, to continue monitoring ongoing processes to ensure that nominees are ready to begin campaigning when announced on November 21st this year.

The CCM spokesperson added that his visit, along with some members of the Central Committee and the Secretariat, is meant to remind CCM members how to conduct dignified campaigns that highlight their successes, including the implementation of a solid election manifesto for 2020-2025.
Makalla also said that during the registration process, CCM undertook significant efforts to encourage voter registration, noting that Dar es Salaam had over three million registered voters, equivalent to 96 per cent.
He also urged the nominated individuals to present a positive image by collaborating with councillors to bring development to the country.
On the other hand, Mr Makalla urged all members whose candidacy were not approved to contest in the forthcoming election to be patient.
“I congratulate all those who showed interest but were not selected and encourage them not to lose hope, instead they should continue to seek opportunities in other areas,” he said.
