Keep citizens updated on manifesto, CCM tells leaders

DAR ES SALAAM: THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has urged Members of Parliament (MPs) and councillors across the country to maintain close contact with citizens by updating them on the implementation of the party’s Election Manifesto 2025–2030.

CCM Deputy Secretary-General (Mainland), Mr Aggrey Mwanri, made the call over the weekend in Dar es Salaam, while addressing residents of Ubungo during a public meeting in Manzese aimed at highlighting progress in implementing the manifesto in the constituency.

Mr Mwanri commended Ubungo MP, Professor Kitila Mkumbo, for organising the meeting, saying such engagements give elected leaders an opportunity to account to citizens and strengthen public trust.

He said the CCM manifesto represents the party’s commitments to citizens and aligns with the aspirations of the Dira 2050 (Tanzania Development Vision 2050), which focuses on improving people’s livelihoods.

“The party’s manifesto contains our promises to citizens,” Mr Mwanri said, stressing the importance of keeping the public informed on government efforts to fulfil those commitments.

He also urged grassroots leaders, including village and street chairpersons, to follow suit, noting their critical role in strengthening the party.

Prof Mkumbo has visited all eight wards in Ubungo Constituency since his election in October last year, using the visits to identify and address challenges facing residents.

“Congratulations to all MPs who are doing this. It will help build citizens’ trust,” Mr Mwanri said.

He further called on residents to continue contributing to development initiatives, noting that sustainable development requires joint efforts between the government and citizens.

Earlier, Prof Mkumbo said that since being re-elected for a second term, he had conducted eight visits across the constituency, including Manzese, focusing on addressing issues raised by residents.

He thanked the government under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating funds for various development projects in Ubungo, including road construction.

Prof Mkumbo said about 19 roads are currently under construction in the constituency.

“Running a country requires proper planning, good governance, investment and delivering development to the people,” he said.

The meeting aimed to familiarise residents with the implementation of the manifesto, more than eight months after the party’s victory in last year’s General Election.

Prof Mkumbo said he was pleased to host Mr Mwanri, describing it as his first such public meeting in Ubungo since restrictions on political rallies were lifted.

The meeting attracted thousands of CCM supporters and residents from across the constituency
