DAR ES SALAAM : DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Dr Doto Biteko has commended the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) for organising this year’s Employer of the Year Award (EYA), urging winners to uphold the high standards that contributed to their achievement and to continue setting a benchmark for excellence in the workplace.
Dr Biteko said on Friday that ATE’s annual awards are a critical catalyst for competition among employers to strengthen working conditions including job safety, high standard of production and good relations with employees for development of their companies or organisations.
“I congratulate ATE for this initiative which calls for strengthening good working conditions by employers at workplaces”.
“We believe this award will continue to encourage competition among employees to keep excelling,” said Dr Biteko.
The Employer of the Year Awards, an initiative of the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE), has been held annually since its inception in 2005. This year marks the 19th edition of the prestigious event.
Its purpose is to uplift human capital and human resources to make them play their lead role in business performance.
Through EYA therefore, ATE seeks to promote and sensitive organisations which put people at the core of their businesses and have implemented policies, systems and processes that create and sustain enterprise competitiveness, productivity improvement alongside industrial peace and harmony.

The award is based on both a scientific and professional study of functional human resources and people management among the leading corporations and high growth Small and Medium Enterprises.
This year, more than 100 companies and organisations showed interest but only 76 submitted their questionnaires and were nominated to compete in more than 10 categories of the awards.
Dr Biteko further urged participants who lost the race to overall best employer winner and other categories not to give up but instead learn from the winners and integrate the ATE’s requirement in the next year’s competition.
Earlier, ATE Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ms Suzanne Ndomba-Doran said the EYA awards were established with the aim of recognising employers who are members of ATE and excel in implementing effective strategies that promote the management of human resources and business activities.
‘Since their inception, these awards have continued to encourage companies to put efforts into these areas by adhering to laws, establishing policies, regulations and friendly environments to enhance productivity and competitiveness,” she said.
She further appreciated participants and sponsors for showcasing interest in the award to make it a reality while thanking the government for continuing to create a favourable environment for business prosperity.
In the decorated award ceremonies that drew attention by bringing CEOs both private and public sectors in the country, the Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) emerged as the overall winner for the EYA.
