Anti-doping course benefits 120 sports leaders

OVER 120 sports leaders and athletes have participated in the antidoping seminar prohibiting illegal doping for athletes and encouraging improving their athletic performance.

A three-day training that commenced on Monday and will climax today involved groups of athletes from different disciplines.

During the seminar, the instructors highlighted the health side effects of using such drugs and the professional consequences to the stakeholders.

Christine Mugera, an instructor from Kenya, encouraged participants to adhere to the teachings and become ambassadors to their fellow sportsmen and women in providing education to other colleagues on curb doping.

She also commended the government through the Ministry for Culture, Arts and Sports, the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for such an event.

“They are doing great work in educating youth about the effects of using illegal drugs in sports.” The government organised the seminar through the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports in collaboration with UNESCO.

Ahead of its climax, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Culture, Arts and Sports Hassan Abbas expect to grace.

During the occasion, the Tanzania National Committee Anti-Doping Coordinator, Christine Luambano, said they are glad to meet sportsmen and women to enlighten them on the consequence of using unprescribed medicines for numerous intentions, including the increase of stamina.

She highlighted possible side effects of doping, including high blood pressure, epilepsy and diabetes.
