Dar Rugby Saba promises fierce 7s battle

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Rugby Union (TRU) has confirmed that the Dar Rugby Saba 2026, the second leg of the Tanzania Rugby Saba National 7s Circuit, will be held on August 29, at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) grounds, pitch 1.
The tournament is expected to attract more than 10 clubs from across the country, with over 150 players and team officials expected to take part alongside spectators, members of the UDSM community, rugby stakeholders and partners.
The Dar leg follows the opening round of the National 7s Circuit held in Dodoma in May, with clubs now aiming to collect valuable points as they battle for qualification and improved positions ahead of the Grand Finale scheduled for Arusha in December.
TRU General Secretary Anthony Dawa said the Dar tournament was an important part of efforts to establish a consistent and competitive national rugby platform.
“The Dar Rugby Saba is an important part of the journey we began in Dodoma. The clubs are not only competing for results on the day, but also for valuable Circuit points as we build towards the Grand Finale in Arusha,” Dawa said.
“We are looking forward to bringing the rugby community together in Dar es Salaam and creating another strong platform for players, clubs and supporters.” The tournament will also feature international match officials from Kenya and Uganda, who will assist in officiating matches while contributing to efforts to raise refereeing standards across the circuit.
Beyond competition, TRU expects the event to support talent identification, player exposure and youth engagement, while promoting greater public participation in rugby.
The tournament is also expected to combine sport, entertainment and community engagement as the union seeks to broaden the sport’s appeal and strengthen its development at the grassroots and national levels.
According to Dawa the invited teams include Dar Cubs RFC, Iringa Wild Dogs RFC, Arusha Rhinos RFC, Dar Leopards RFC, Ukonga Warriors RFC, Dodoma Dragons (men and girls), Dar Cheetahs RFC (girls) and Moshi Leopards RFC (men and girls).
Others are Kilimanjaro RFC (men and girls), Tanga Titans RFC, Tanga Warriors RFC, Monduli RC (men and girls), TRD (men and girls), Ukonga Queens RFC (girls) and Arusha Dumas RFC.
